Bhagavad Gita is part of mahAbhAratam. Beyond reciting the complete bhagavdgItA every shukla-ekAdashI, we would now like to look at the 18 days that follow the bhagavadgItA - the mahAbhArata yuddham. Before we can explore the contents of mahAbhAratam, we have to become familiar with the actual work. As is widely known, mahAbhAratam is the biggest single literary composition. So, it is no easy task to cover all of mahAbhAratam. As students of Samskritam, we will make an effort in 2025 (starting from 2024 gItAjayantI to 2025 gItAjayantI) to read and record the chapters of this kAvyam which is an itihAsaH - the literary work that recounts history, and stream these recordings later on.Please register your interest with a sample of your reading skills by reading the entire 12th chapter of bhagavadgItA. This is a bhImaprayatnaH for us, and will be possible only if more and more of us participate. सौतिरुवाच
एवमुक्त्वा ततः श्रीमान् - इति आरम्भः
महाभारतम् - कौम्भघोणीयम्
श्रीः
श्रीमन्महाभारतम्
कुम्भघोणस्थम्
दाक्षिणात्यबहुकोशानुसारम्
निर्णयसागरमुद्रणयन्त्रप्रकाशितम्
गीताजयन्ति-दिनात् आरभ्य पञ्चसहस्रसंवत्सरेभ्यः पूर्वम् अष्टादशदिनानि महाभारतयुद्धं प्राचलत्। तादृशं युद्धं यस्मात् परं जीवितानां सङ्ख्या एकस्य जनस्य हस्ताङ्गुलिभिः गणनयोग्या अभवत्।
'सत्यमेव जयते' इत्यस्मात् सत्यं धर्मः च न भिन्नौ इत्यस्मात् धर्मः जयति इति सुदृढम् ।
रक्षकेण रक्षितः धर्मः रक्षकं रक्षति ।
रक्षितः वा अरक्षितः वा धर्मः तु न नश्यति ।
